Terms of service

These terms govern your use of Cognisance. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you’re using Cognisance on behalf of a business, you confirm you’re authorised to accept these terms for that business.

Cognisance is an AI-powered assistant that organises your business information and helps you understand your obligations. It is not a law firm, accounting practice or financial adviser, and its answers are general information based on the material you provide, not professional advice. For decisions with legal, tax or financial consequences, consult a qualified professional. AI-generated answers can be incomplete or wrong; always check the cited sources.

You own the documents and information you bring to Cognisance. You grant us the limited licence needed to store, process and display that content back to you, that’s it. You’re responsible for having the right to upload what you upload, and for the accuracy of facts you confirm.

You agree not to:

• use the service for unlawful purposes;
• attempt to access another customer’s data;
• probe, disrupt or overload the service;
• resell or white-label the service without our agreement.

Keep your sign-in credentials secure, you’re responsible for activity under your account. Paid plans renew until cancelled; you can cancel at any time and your plan runs to the end of the billing period. We may change plan pricing with at least 30 days’ notice.

We work hard to keep Cognisance available and your data safe, but the service is provided “as is” and we can’t promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may improve or change features over time; if we make a change that materially reduces the service, we’ll tell you in advance.

To the extent permitted by law (including the Australian Consumer Law, whose guarantees this section does not exclude), our total liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. We are not liable for decisions you make in reliance on AI-generated content.

You can stop using Cognisance and close your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms. On closure, your content is deleted in line with our privacy policy.
